Dick Vaughn opened the meeting at 9:30 AM.

Approve Minutes of March 14, 2006 meeting:

One correction noted: The Activities report stated "He (Bill Johnson) also discussed plans under development for a local Field Trip."  Bill Johnson and the attendees did not recall that discussion, so the statement is rescinded.

Treasurer's Report:

Motion-Bernie Peterson; Second-Gary Vacin; Accepted renewal as stated.

Activities Report:

Bill Johnson noted the cancellation of the Fly-In to Lake Powell - Page, Arizona due to the lack of planes.  It was also noted with a thank you to Jim Parish who did a considerable amount of planning for the several optional events.

Bill Johnson reviewed plans for the next Fly-In to San Diego - USS Midway Carrier & Museum.  We currently have three pilots/planes signed-up and a total of ten seats available.  An announcement for sign-up will be made to the members at tonight's monthly SLAC meeting (April 19, 2006).  There was discussion also of an alternate Fly-In destination if we are not able to fly into San Diego due to weather, namely the "marine layer" that is prevalent there.  Lake Powell, Palm Springs Air Museum, and the Patton Museum were suggested as alternatives, and will be reviewed.

Programs Report:

In Elton Dyal’s absence, Dick reported that Greg Chenoweth, Manager of the Chandler Municipal Airport, will be the speaker at tonight’s Monthly SLAC meeting.

Gary Vacin made a suggestion for a future speaker for “sailplanes”.  Since he has some information related to this, he will contact Elton to share that for scheduling into a future monthly program.

Provost Report:

Gary Vacin was recently appointed as Provost by President Dick Vaughn.  Gary reported that he has taken over the duties from Bernie Peterson.

New Business:

Al Galvi opened a discussion of concern about the direction of the club in the following areas:

1)       Fly-Ins – concern over the few pilots who have been signing-up.  Discussion ensued about how to stimulate more pilots to fly for the club.  Al suggested a “raffle”, which would benefit the pilots signed-up, in meeting their cost for the trip.  Details of how a raffle would work will have to be outlined for further discussion by the Board.  Also, there was discussion of compensating pilots of rental aircraft differently than for pilots of owned aircraft as an added incentive.  This also will have to be detailed for further discussion by the Board.

2)       Speakers for the Monthly Programs – Concern was expressed about the quality of some of some past speakers.  Board members were asked to give thought to how to improve that, what would be good for future programs, and to bring that to the next Board meeting in May.

Next Meetings:

Monthly Board Meeting: Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Monthly General Meeting: Wednesday, May 17, 2006

Meeting Adjournment:

Dick Vaughn adjourned the meeting at 10:30 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Johnson, Recording Secretary
