NEWS OF INTEREST TO THE MEMBERS
· Actions of the Board at the November 14, 2006 meeting:
1. The nominating committee
selected the following officers for a two year term ending December 31 2008:

President

for Secretary
These offices will be voted on by the membership at
the December 20th meeting.
Nominations for other candidates will be accepted from the floor. If anyone wishes to nominate themselves, please

Al Galvi has been selected by the Board to be the Vice President
effective January 1, 2007 His term will
expire on December 31, 2007. He
replaces Bob Walch who resigned to run for President.

Dick Vaughn has been appointed to Activities Director effective January
1, 2007. He replaces Larry Lathom who
resigned because of the illness of his wife, Carol. Note: All Activities have been deferred until 2007
4.
Member Jim Theobald had recent surgery and expected to have a heart
valve replaced, however the doctors repaired Jim without requiring a valve
replacement. Looks like Jim will retain
his flying medical certificate
5.
SLAC is seeking additional help from members who are willing to devote
part time to assist in the various chores generally required of any social
club.

· Lt Col Jake Sorensen was our speaker at the November 15th
meeting
Col Sorensen has had a long military career.
He was a Command Pilot with 4,993 flying hours primarily in jet fighter
aircraft. His awards include the DFC
with 3 oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 12 oak leaf
clusters. Also the Air Force
Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the Combat Crew Award, the Purple
Heart and numerous lesser awards and decorations.
Col Sorensen
spoke about many of his military diverse experiences primarily relating to reconnaissance
in the RF-101 aircraft overseas and prior to the Vietnam War. He spoke of his
participation in the international Reconnaissance competition in Europe, his
sonic boom breaking a few windows, (about half a million dollars worth) on
a training mission during bad weather in North Africa, an incident that
affected the king in Morocco and touched upon the political climate
in France where he was based. In addition, he spoke of early reconnaissance
operations prior to the war in Vietnam and Thailand and culminated his
talk with reference to the ongoing reconnaissance operations being conducted in
Afghanistan and Iraq.

Speaker Lt Col Jake Sorensen
· December’s meeting will feature Major Al Fox, USAF (Ret)
Major Fox is a native Californian, raised and schooled in Fresno,
CA. He joined the Air Force aviation
cadet program in 1951. He has been
stationed in Okinawa, St Paul International Airport, Fresno, CA, Southeast Asia
and South Vietnam.
He left the service in 1973 with over 6,400 flying hours but in 1977 got back
into flying the DC-7 fire fighting tanker for 3 seasons.
Major Fox lives in Sun Lakes with his wife, Trish
