You would be all smiles too if you could walk away from this!

Dan Lance sent us the following concerning the crash of a rented C-152:

Just wanted to share some pictures of a very eventful emergency landing I experienced this past December. I was flying from Chandler Airport to Glendale Airport to visit the dealer that is assisting with an ultra-light build. I was with my daughter at 2300 msl - about 1300 above ground, just south of South Mountain. There was some violent vibrations followed by a very loud bang and the propeller stopped very suddenly. I barely cleared a concrete irrigation ditch and upon landing in the soft dirt, the nose wheel collapsed and flipped us over. Minor injuries - bloody nose, some bruises and scratches, etc........ Felt good to walk away....

The engine failed due to a thrown piston rod. Must have been metal fatigue - I checked the oil level and everything was ok during the run-up..

It was totally destroyed and beyond repair. The insurance company sent me a certified letter indicating they would be sending the wreckage to a salvage company and asked if I wanted to examine it prior to being sent

Note: Dan says the plane was a C-152 which he rented at the Chandler Airport.
