Board Meeting Minutes

February 25, 2003

The meeting was held in a card room at the Sun Lakes CC.  VP, Vern Nelson chaired the meeting in the absence of the President, Sam Doria.  Vern opened the meeting at 9:15am. This summary of events records Board actions, recounts reports made by club officers, and recaps discussions that occurred during the meeting.  The meeting ended at 10:55am.

 

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS

 

The Board’s first order of business involved two appointments.  Each was initiated, in turn, by a motion and carried by the Board appointing Robert Earl to Acting Secretary and Elton Dyal to Program Officer.

 

APPPROVING THE MINUTES OF LAST MEETING

 

The Board approved the minutes from the meeting held on January 21, 2003.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Items of Old Business were brought to the attention of the Board:

 

a.                  The use of waivers by visitors who participate in Fly-In and Visitation was tabled until the next meeting.

 

b.                  The club’s draft SOPs were tabled until the next meeting.

 

c.                  The suggestion that the President’s duties be expanded to include activities of the program chairman was dropped from the agenda.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

The Board recognized Ray Schrecengost for the long hours and hard work he has unselfishly given to the club.  Ray’s contributions included many of the activities and responsibilities that are now assigned to various individuals.  Ray has been a pillar and a main-stay in the club’s development.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT

 

Ray Schrecengost presented the Treasurer’s Report.  Ray characterized the club’s financial condition as being “in good shape”.  He said the club’s account has a balance of approximately $900.00. 

 

Following the report, Ray suggested and subsequently introduced a motion that the club should donate $50.00 to air museums that are visited during an officially arranged Fly-In or Visitation.  The motion included a requirement that the president enclose the donation with a letter of appreciation of the visit was passed by the Board.

 

FLY-IN & VISITATION REPORT

 

Dick Vaughn, Fly-In & Visitation Chairman reported Fly-In and Visitation plans:

 

a.                  March 8, 2003.  Visitation to Casa Grande Cactus Fly-In.  Members who want to participate will meet at the Cottonwood flag pole at 8:00AM to build a car pool.  Details can be reviewed on the SLAC Web Site, or call Dick Vaughn, (490) 895.2691.

 

b.                  March 15, 2003.  Fly-In to Wickenburg, in March 15.  Ground transportation will be arranged from the airport to the museum.  Details can be reviewed on the SLAC Web Site, or call Dick Vaughn, (490) 895.2691.

 

April 2003 Fly-In to Edwards AFB.  If this activity is not workable, there may be plans for a Fly-In to the Grand Canyon airport.

 

c.                  May 2003. A two night stay over Fly-In to Moab, Utah is under consideration. 

 

d.                  June 2003.  An activity may be considered to join member Jon Melby, as spectators, for his scheduled air show at Longmont, Colorado.


           

PROGRAM REPORT

 

Elton Dyal, Program Chairman reported that the following programs are scheduled:

 

a.                  February 26, 2003.  Bob Kanaga, former Thunderbird pilot.

 

b.                  March 26, 2003.  Tentatively, Jim Jefferies will discuss experiences he has had in his aviation career.

 

c.                  April 23, 2003.  Tentatively, Betty Jo Reid will discuss her experiences ferrying military aircraft during WWII.

 

d.                  May 28,2003.  Tentatively, Bob Nelson, DOT Transportation Security Administration officer will discuss airport security.

 

            NOTE:  The club will recess June through September.

A motion was made and carried that SLAC pens will be given to persons who provide a program for the club, including members and six specific persons who provided programs in the past.

 

DISCUSSIONS

 

The Board urges club members:

 

a.                  Who have SLAC jackets to have the Arizona State Flag embroidered on them just above the embroidered words “Sun Lakes Aero Club”.  Ask for the “standard size”, which is 1 3/4” X 2 1/2”.  This can be done for less than $5.00 at Artistic Monogramming & Embroidery, 762 N. Arizona Ave. #2, Chandler.  The business is located next to Marty’s Trophies on the west side of Arizona Ave. north of Chandler Blvd, South of Ray Rd.

 

b.                  To get acquainted with the  SLAC Web Site, www.sunlakesaeroclub.org.  It contains a wealth of information that is being enhanced daily. The web site also provides a dynamic collection of club history.  Questions should be directed to Vern Nelson, (480) 895.0572.

 

c.                  To complete a Member Profile form for inclusion on the Web.  Forms are made available on the web site or by calling Vern Nelson, (480) 895.0572.  In time, your photo may be added to
your Member Profile.

 

d.                  To pick up some aviation related magazines at the regular meetings.  They are made available by Jim Parrish, but more are being collected for club members than are being taken.  Jim may be required to give them to other organizations in order to keep his inventory at a manageable level.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Al Galvi reported that he saw the Sun Lakes Aero Club being promoted on Sun Lakes Channel 49 wherein interested parties were encouraged to seek information and visit the club meetings.

 

Vern Nelson suggested that the next Splash article should advertise the SLAC Web Site
