Approval of Minutes of last Meeting:
Bill
Johnson presented the minutes of the last meeting on February 20. 2007.
Discussion followed regarding an addendum. An email was sent to all the Board
of Directors on 02/27/07 to purchase a digital projector, not to exceed $600,
to be used at monthly meetings. A motion was made to add the addendum to the
minutes of the meeting on February, 20, 2007 by Gary Vacin, seconded by Al
Galvi and carried by the Board. Also, as Elton Dyal came to meeting late, it
was decided to move his name from absent to present for the February meeting.
Reports:
Treasurer's Report:
Ben
Thompson reported a closing balance of $705.41, as of March 20, 2007.
2007
dues have been paid by 57 members. Email reminders were sent to 20 members who
have not paid their 2007 dues. Of the six members who do not have email, 4 have
since paid. The 2
remaining
members were sent reminder letters. A motion was made by Gary Vacin and
seconded by Al Galvi to accept the Treasurer's report.
Website Report
Bill
Johnson reported that he was working with Vern Nelson so he can phase in while
Vern phases out as Webmaster. Bill
contacted "Go Daddy" to arrange automatic billing. They can send
charges directly to the Club's checking account for payment, via a debit card,
for the website annual charge in May and the monthly charge of $9.95, subject
to certain discounts. Bill stated that Vern had also cancelled the contract
with "Go Daddy" for forwarding website reports as there was no
benefit.
Activities
Report:
Dick
Vaughn reported the following:
Dick
related the events of the tour to the Pimalco Aluminum Extrusion plant in
Chandler on March 13, 2007. The plant manufactures parts for the aircraft
industry by the extrusion method. Manufacturing methods for various parts were
very interesting using close tolerences in an extremely clean environment. The
tour was conducted in a professional manner via helmets with receivers so
everyone could hear the tour guide's words in a noisy environment. Words of
caution were expressed to the members to not "TOUCH" a thing as
everything was HOT.
The
flight to Globe is still on for March 29. Currently, there are 3 aircraft going
but Dick would like more. Apache Gold Casino is wi thin walking distance of
aircraft parking. There will be time to try one's luck before everyone meets
for lunch. Additonal time will be allowed for another try to lose or gain some
funds before heading back to Chandler, arriving at 3 PM.
Al
Galvi suggested inviting plane owners who are no longer members to consider
rejoining the Club. The objective being to gain more pilots and maybe the Club
could offer incentives, such as, free membership for a year. Al made a motion
and Gary Vacin seconded it. Motion carried.
There was a discussion regarding
what was necessary to obtain liability coverage for passengers of aircraft for
Club tours. Motion was made and seconded and approved that the existing
liability form was adequate.
The Board decided to continue to
send a contribution to non-profit organizations for tours conducted if the
members are not charged an entrance fee.
There is a tentative fly-in to
Prescott Valley in April to tour the new Flight Service Station. More info is
forth coming.
Discussion occurred regarding a
flight to San Diego. The club has tried four times to go to date. Weather is
better in the fall but the shorter daylight hours is a factor. The Board agreed
to pursue the San Diego flight scheduling for the fall.
Provost Report:
Gary Vacin stated that Ben Thompson
would have possession of and operate the projector.
The speaker for the April monthly
meeting will be Russell Pankey, the retired manager of the Grand Canyon
Airport. Russ is a resident of Sun Lakes.
The tenative speaker for the May
meeting hopefully will be someone from Luke Air Force Base.
Gary
Vacin made a motion to submit a feature article on the Club to the
"Splash". It was seconded by Al Galvi and the motion was carried. Ben
Thompson also suggested submitting an article to "The Sun Laker".
Old Business:
Discussion
occurred regarding using "Excel" to modify reports written for our
web site. Needs more data and study. Also will seek a person to maintain the
roster.
Al
Galvi suggested a review of the contents of the "By Laws" to verify
specific duties of each officer by next year (in the fall). Currently, some
functions of the "Secretary" are being done by other people.
Al
Galvi made a motion that each Board member write a draft job description of
their duties through this May. It was seconded and carried.
Al
Galvi also made a motion to obtain a list of aircraft owners in the area. The
motion was seconded and carried. Bob Walch volunteered to pursue the subject.
New Business:
Discussion
occurred regarding who is going to take pictures on tours for the website. It
was decided that the Activities Director would arrange for picture taking.
Discussion
occurred regarding sending the newsletter to non-members. Currently, Vern is
sending the newsletter to non-members. Once Bill Johnson is the official
webmaster, an official Board policy can be established regarding who should get
the newsletter. The Board did decide to purge the roster of delinquent members
on July 01, 2007.
President
Bob Walch called for a motion to adjourn, it was seconded and motion carried.
The Board adjourned at 11:30 AM.
Respectfully
submitted,
Tom
Malthaner, Secretary
