Former Chandler tower manager to
speak at Aero Club
Bob Earl, the first manager of the
air traffic control tower at the Chandler
Municipal Airport, will be featured speaker at the Sun Lakes Aero Club (SLAC)
meeting Monday, May 17 at the Sun Lakes Country Club Mirror Room. The
meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with coffee and camaraderie, followed by Earl’s
presentation at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
A Sun Lakes resident, Earl has some 44 years of air traffic control experience,
including U.S. Air Force, FAA and FAA contract air traffic control. His
assignments include air route traffic control centers and managing airport
traffic control towers at five major U.S. airports, including those with radar
and non-radar approach facilities.
Earl retired from the FAA in January, 1994, where he was assistant manager of
the Las Vegas Tower/TRACON (Terminal Radar Control). The following
year, he became manager of the Chandler Municipal Airport control tower,
an FAA contract tower. After over three years in an Air Guard Mobile
tower, the Chandler controllers moved into the present day eight-story
permanent structure.
Earl retired from that post in
June, 2002. Today he is involved in a wide range of organizations in Sun
Lakes and other community organizations and is a frequent Splash contributor.
Now in its 15th year,
SLAC meets the third Monday of each month from October through May in the
Mirror Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club. For additional information, contact
