Korean War veteran to address Aero Club
Sun Lakes resident Nuel Sanders, a P2V Neptune crew member during the Korean War, will be guest speaker at the Sun Lakes Aero Club (SLAC) meeting Monday, April 18 at the Sun Lakes Country Club. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with coffee and camaraderie, followed by Sanders’ presentation at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
Sanders, a native of Dumas, Texas, joined the Navy in April, 1950 and was assigned to training camp at Memphis, Tenn. Following a 3-month stint at flight school in San Diego, he was sent to Japan where he joined a patrol squadron flying two-engine Lockheed P2V Neptune aircraft. “I had never heard of Korea when I joined the Navy,” Sanders said, “but I ended up flying more than 65 missions as an electronic countermeasure specialist patrolling the Soviet and Chinese periphery.”
SLAC meets the third Monday of each month from October through May in the Sun Lakes Country Club Mirror Room. The public is invited to attend all meetings. Additional information is available on the club’s web site, SunLakesAeroClub.org, or by calling Bob Walch at 895-8869 or Al Galvi at 480-802-0104.
