Programs:

1.    Speaker for October 27th:

Member Tom Malthaner will entertain us with his vast knowledge of the history of World War II.  He will relate some of the causes leading to the war and relate in chronological order some events, known & unknown to most, that occurred after September 1, 1939.  You may view Tom’s profile and photo on our website at Tom Malthaner Profile  (His photo takes awhile to download).

2.    Speaker for November 21st:

Lt Col Edward H. (Ned) Linch III will speak to us about his experiences during a tour of duty in Iraq.  This may be very timely considering Congress’s vacillation on continuing the struggle in Iraq.  You may recall that Col Linch spoke to us at the May 16th meeting.  He covered “See and Avoid” which was very interesting and timely.

Activities:

·          Dick Vaughn, Activities  480-895-2691 or e-mail dickslac@wbhsi.net

The major components of Lockheed's FS21 system

"Flight Service 21" (FS21) will consist of hubs located in Fort Worth, Texas; Leesburg, Virginia; and Prescott, Arizona. All three hubs went into operational testing mode in January 2007.

Other FS21 facilities would be in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Columbia, Missouri; Denver, Colorado; Honolulu, Hawaii; Islip, New York; Kankakee, Illinois; Lansing, Michigan; Macon, Georgia; Miami, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Oakland, California; Princeton, Minnesota; Raleigh, North Carolina; St. Petersburg, Florida; San Diego, California; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Seattle, Washington. These facilities will be retrofitted with the new FS21 system during 2007.

All the FS21 facilities will be tied together in a super network, sharing a common database. Every briefer will have access to all information.

·          FUTURE CONSIDERATION

USS Midway Aircraft Carrier & Museum – San Diego, CaliforniaCarrier Midway

This Fly-In was cancelled in May 2006 due to weather conditions, and will be reviewed for a future Fly-In.  This destination ranked 1st on a survey of members.  Member Jim Cunningham was based on the Midway and has offered to guide our group.  He said he probably knows more than they tell you on the tape.

The SLAC Board meets on Tuesday October 16, 2007 at the Sun Lakes Country Club in Phase 1 at 9:30 a.m. in the Card Room in the Recreation Center.  You are cordially invited to attend these meetings.
