LOCKHEED CONSTELLATION

This was the first aircraft that I flew on. I was put into training for the 3 that Western had acquired from the PNA merger in 1968.  So right out of training with Western, I was thrown into another training class to fly the Conny.  It had outward opening doors (today we have inward outward opening) So, there were times that a door would fly open while we were seated near it.  One of my most memorable flying events was with a slide that flew out and then in to trap myself and my flying partner in our seats.  Thankfully, we landed and offloaded the passengers, the crew strapped Susan and myself in seats, lying down.  Took off and went to our final destination, with the breeze a flying.  Magazines, etc. everywhere. Oh, the glamor!!! Joanie

Thanks to Kathy Key for sending me this!  There are seven links at the bottom to videos from the 1930's on board the Constellation.  Some are better than others.  The top two, in order, continue one long explanation of a TWA flight.  Lots of good footage of the cockpit as well as loading the food, fueling, etc.  Also scenes in the hangar and shops retooling the engines,

The very last one (bottom) is in color and features Arthur Godfrey.  It is part 2 of another two-parter.  But once the link takes you to it, you will see a link to part one if you want to watch it.  It cracked me up how they took the plane to cruise, and then Godfrey leans back and says,  'Time to relax and have a Chesterfield!'

The only links are not nearly so good.  I guess it just depends on how enthralled you are with the plane.   These links are fun to play with, though!.   Enjoy.... CAROL
