7.    Airship Tether Severs Aircraft Wing A Cessna 182 Skylane was attempting to pick up his IFR clearance from ATC when he wandered into the restricted airspace surrounding an aerostat radar facility in Cudjoe Key, Fla. The airplane struck the airship’s tethering cable, which sliced through the wing and sent the airplane spinning out of control into the shallow channel below. The pilot and his two passengers were killed.

8.    Fuel Awareness Fuel exhaustion has caused 1,700 accidents in the past decade and is nearly 100 percent preventable.

9.    Dzus Fastener Pronounced 'Zoose', a Dzus Fastener is a pretty unique component for aircraft use -- it being a patented slotted screw that binds to a wire for fast release and securing of cowlings and inspection plates, requiring no special tool other than a quarter coin.

10.                       No Experience, No Judgment  First officer: "I've never seen icing conditions. I've never deiced. I've never seen any—I've never experienced any of that. I don't want to have to experience that… and make those kinds of calls. You know, I'dve freaked out. I'dve have like seen this much ice and thought, 'oh my gosh we were going to crash.'"

11.                       Thunderstorm Quiz  Take this quiz.  It will help you understand thunderstorms.

12.                       Question: I am a relatively new private pilot. Most of my flight training was done in the winter months with nice cool temperatures and no turbulence. I am now flying in hotter weather and find that I start to feel slightly airsick at times. Can I take nondrowsy Dramamine to help?

Answer: New or experienced pilots can encounter occasional mild to moderate motion sickness during flights on hot, bumpy days. However, the FAA does not allow the use of Dramamine (dimenhydrinate). The drugs used to treat motion sickness symptoms, even the less drowsy formulas, can produce sedating side effects. Our AOPA medical certification specialists suggest that products containing ginger, either in a capsule, tea, or cookie, may relieve the symptoms. Also, motion sickness wrist bands, available at some pharmacies, or mint flavored gum may help. If the motion sickness symptoms are severe enough, consider flying with another pilot who can act as pilot in command. If the symptoms persist, there may be a more serious underlying medical condition that requires further evaluation.
